I was talking with Dr. Campos about the futility of these articles I'm writing. I asked if he really thought that with millions of webpages being uploaded every day, if Tek Sci Productions could ever reach the first page of a search for "medical corporate video."
Dr. Campos said. "Do a search for "pharmaceutical corporate video. What do you see?"
"Not us," I replied.
"Not yet," Dr. Campos said, "but do you see the completely irrelevant results on the first page of the Search Engine Results Page? All we have to do is become more attractive to Google than those pages, and we can be on the first page of a SERP."
"If it was that easy, everyone would do it," I said.
"I never said it was easy," said Dr. Campos. "If it was easy, everyone would do it, and we couldn't get on that first page of search results. My point is there is mutual benefit: It is in the best interest of the search engines to put us on the first page over those irrelevant results. It is in our best interest to get there, and people searching for "medical corporate videos" want to find us easily as well. With everyone on the same side, everyone wants the goal to be accomplished."
"Then why doesn't everyone have their listing on the first page of a Yahoo search?" I asked.
"Because even favorable reactions need a catalyst," said Dr. Campos. "There is considerable "activation energy" to accomplish this goal. People want results today, and aren't willing to work for a year or two to get there. I didn't learn to direct movies overnight, and I don't expect to become the "First Result" on the search page overnight either.
"There are 10 blogs on the first page of MSN search for "Web Log" because they get updated daily. But for every blogger who does that work, there are a thousand who start a blog and lose interest when they don't get a hundred hits for their first two months of blogging.
Video production companies websites tend to have minimal content. If we keep generating content, and links to that content, we will get noticed."
So Dr. Campos really does believe in the "ideal white hat search engine model of success."
