Why these tutorials?

Hi! I'm Jane, an intern at Tek Sci Productions. Amongst my internly duties is to maintain this portion of the company website. Why? Because my background is in text/copy writing, and I know nothing about video. I was definitely interested in learning more though.

When I met Dr. Campos, he suggested an ideal starting job for me: writing some tutorials for the Tek Sci Productions website. Dr. Campos is very big on "mutual benefit."

The internet would get:

  • Useful information from a different perspective. Most tutorials are written by people who are already experts. I am writing from the perspective of someone who is new to film. Who better to write tutorials aimed at others new to film?
  • A cohesive source of information. I tried to learn about videos via Google, but sorting through the search results was...difficult. A novice can come to this page and know all the information is relevant.
  • A repository of information I am doing some web searches for tutorials and noting the better ones. I'll eventually contact the authors asking for permission to repost that information on our site (obviously with a link to their homepage :) If we are streaming HD videos, we can easily provide a permanent home for some text and picture tutorials (without those annoying flashing/pop-up ads).

Our clients would get:

  • Confidence.Dr. Campos has a PhD in science, and he has applied his analytical abilities to filmmaking. I'll admit that he's one of the smartest people I have ever met in my life. But if that is not enough to inspire confidence, clients can read my piddling articles and think, "Wow, if their media intern knows this much, imagine how smart Dr. Campos must be!"
  • Reassurance. Nobody will be surprised that by writing these articles, we hope to increase traffic to our site and increase our Google Page Rank. Our clients will be reassured that they are hiring an "authority" on the subject. All because of my super amazing articles that got visitors to link to our site. So if you like these articles, please link to us :)
  • Information.
  • Not just information about film. But also information about the company. Most of the website is deliberately non-threateningly drab-- to present a professional image. But Dr. Campos's interpersonal skills allow him to be a great director and teacher, and that sense of camraderie is evident in our personnel. As the "entry level" team member, I can reflect an "informal" perspective of our company, through my (hopefully) witty banter.

    I would get:

    • Knowledge.Dr. Campos believes that the best way to learn something is to teach it to someone else. (This stems from his personal experience-- he has taught many science classes.) He said I'd learn film better if I wrote articles about it.
    • ExerciseI find that my writing skills atrophy if I don't write for a long time. By writing these articles, I get to keep doing what I love.
    • Experience Who knows where this internship will lead? I would rather be actively involved and working at doing something than waiting listlessly around for life to pass me by. I love the high-energy creative atmosphere at Tek Sci Productions, and enjoy contributing in my small way to the company.

    • So that's the motivation for these tutorials. Dr. Campos has suggested some topics to write about. I do some research online, talk to the experienced people and Tek Sci Productions, and I write the article. I hope you enjoy them!
